Welcome to Flight Calls Central. This page is to promote the knowledge of flight calls and hopefully create a better understanding of them in the general birding community. There will be pages created that highlight certain groupings of species that are commonly encountered. Most of the recordings are from nocturnal migrants which are recorded using bucket microphones and home setups. Occasionally some calls come from diurnal sightings and of birds making short flights.
Each example will have a pictured spectrogram along with the audio recording, if available.
As many examples for each species will be given in order to attempt to provide a feeling for variation within the given species.
Hopefully this site will become a valuable resource to many and ultimately make flight calls a more prominent identification tool.
